The Challenge to DO NOTHING

The Challenge to DO NOTHING

Weekends are SUPPOSED to include some element of rest, so I wanted to throw out a concept to you to think about -  there is a HUGE difference between being BUSY and being HURRIED.

In that we live in the world that we do - being busy is inevitable. Being busy is an outward condition, a condition of the body.  It occurs when we have too much to do. It is a full schedule; many activities; physically demanding, can be frustrating, and reminds me that I need God.

Being hurried is an inward condition, a condition of the soul.  It means to be so preoccupied with myself and my life that I am unable to be fully present with God, myself and others.   I am unable to occupy the present moment. It is an inner condition of the soul; is spiritually draining; and causes me to be unavailable to God.

Busy-ness transitions to hurry when we let it squeeze God out of our lives.  I cannot live in the Kingdom of God with a hurried soul.  I cannot rest in God with a hurried soul. My soul suffers.  It cries out for restoration. I am running on an empty reservoir.

Jesus told His disciples "Come with Me by yourselves to a quite place and get some rest."  Despite there being so much to do and so many people to help, instead of hurrying off to their next assignment, Jesus got everyone into a boat and they went off to what was described as a "solitary place." He knew they needed to do nothing.

I think we need to do that too.  We need to get off to a solitary place.  Even if you have to set your kids in front of the TV for 20 minutes and lock yourself in the bedroom. Even if you have to force yourself to stop.  Even if your to-do list is a mile long.  Even if you are dancing to the expectations to others and yourself. We need to DO NOTHING - no phone, no "to-do" list, no agenda, no expectations.  We need to literally DO NOTHING with JESUS.

I know for some of us, that's seems like an impossible task. Doesn’t God warn against the “bread of idleness”? Yes, He does. But He also says He “makes makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He RESTORES my soul.” Our soul cannot be restored when we are running around like people with their head on fire. Nevertheless, most Christians that I know are some of the most hurried people that I know. Their souls are tired and exhausted.

The ability, desire, and capacity to do nothing is actually a sign of spiritual maturity. Regardless, so many of us are so bad at it. Something has to change. We have to start somewhere. There has to be a change. Our souls are depleted. So I'm asking you to consider....no, I'm actually CHALLENGING you -  this weekend would you muster up some of the courage that God put in you and DO NOTHING with Him?

The result? Guaranteed greater insight, peace, and calm. Clearer perspective. Stronger and healthier souls. - resulting in our souls becoming UN-hurried and rested in Him.  AND...we'll have some good insight and stories to share.  What do you think?

We can do this. Despite what we believe about ourselves -  I know that you're brave, strong, authentic and insightful. How do I know that? Because Jesus is in you. And He’s dying to do nothing with you.

Thank you for reading! I’d love to hear your thoughts, wisdom and insight. Have an incredible weekend!
